The Pacific

A 10-part mini-series from the creators of "Band of Brothers" telling the intertwined stories of three Marines during America's battle with the Japanese in the Pacific during World War II. We devised a plan to have levels of detail in the effects, actors in prosthetics including 3D transfers and foam appliances. Along with KNB EFX we produced , hundreds of articulated replica human bodies and body parts to augment the scope of the carnage. The majority of the episodes required custom-built effects; to these puppet bodies we added another level of detail for their extreme close-up work. We really had the opportunity to utilize all of the techniques available to us from scar material to the latest silicone appliances.

The Ruins

A group of friends whose leisurely Mexican holiday takes a turn for the worse when they, along with a fellow tourist embark on a remote archaeological dig in the jungle, where something evil lives among the ruins. We created all of the Makeup Effects for this thriller, a lot of traditional prosthetics and some very challenging effects requiring cutting and bleeding in camera, lots of replica bodies and blood rigs. This show was great fun to work on, the Director and Producers were very keen to stay with practical effects where ever possible as apposed to going straight to a Digital solution.

The Great Raid

In 2002 we produced 20 fully articulated replica bodies for scenes with multiple corpses. The heads, hands, and lower legs were all designed with quick release fittings to allow for character change as well as for quick change out of damaged body parts. All body parts were produced in a flexible urethane. We also produced silicone pull on masks of Japanese soldiers for the stunt department. We also produced full upper torso silicone burn suits for the stunt performers allowing for less clothing and burn suit layers.

Fish Tales

Once again we find ourselves producing mermaids. This time for Alki David a Producer Director from England . He had seen Aquamarine with his 2 leads Kelly Brook and Billy Zane. Thankfully they loved what we had done and a few weeks later we started on the tails for Kelly and her stunt swimmer. We now had the knowledge of producing tails from 2 previous films. I felt these tails have turned out the best yet, we used the quick in and out system from H20 and added a series of glue on platelets to transition from girl to fish, We still hand laid the 4500 scales onto the silicone surface of the tails, I think next time I will make them like dolphins just skin, NO scales…

H2O Just Add Water

Mid 2005 we found ourselves producing more mermaids for Jonathan M Shiff Productions on an Australian TV series for children. We took what we had learnt from Aquamarine and refined the build to take in the requirements of a television shoot. The producers needed the actors to be able to get in and out of the tails quickly, to accommodate for a short shooting day as well as quick make-up scene turnarounds.
